Salem March Madness
8th Grade Girls
Coach Shambric Williams and his 8th Grade Girls traveled to Salem, OR for the first time to take part in “The Hoop Super Showcase” March 26-27th. They left Salem with a huge trophy and the satisfaction of beating two of the better teams in the Northwest.
The team was matched up against “Friends of Hoops” on Saturday afternoon. This one sided matchup allowed for plenty of playing time for everyone and scoring was spread across the roster. Dominique Williams went 4 for 4 from the field with 8 points while Tori Williams had 3 steals and 3 rebounds in the 47-12 victory.
Sunday morning put the Lady Dreamers face to face with the team that handed the ladies their last loss of the 2010 season. YEA out of Washington brought their best to the court. The two teams exchanged the lead back and forth throughout the game, coming down to a tie with 0.1 second left. Ebony Norman went to the line and hit her free-throw to put the team up by 1 for the 38-37 win. Norman’s free-throw took her to a game total of 8 points, with Danielle Jardine putting in 10 for the team high.
The Championship game put Sham’s Dreamers up against a very tough “Fast” team out of Oregon. Though the girls were out sized, their quickness, defense and “never say die” attitude saw them through a great game. Destiny Slocum went 50% from the field, including 4 of 6 from behind the arc to lead the team with a season high of 27 points. Danielle Jardine went 8 for 8 from the line and Olivia Haney added to the team total with 6 points.
These ladies have been putting in the time on the court and their commitment to the game was evident, beating two very good teams. Every player played a role in this championship, those mentioned earlier as well as Riley Helmick, Cora Ianniciello, Raquel Jardine, and Lauren Brocke. Sham and his girls will travel to Seattle for their first “High School” level tournament in April.
